A Kitchen Ceiling Water Damage Restoration Project in Ogden

Water damage is one of the most common issues our Swift Restoration and Remodeling specialists combat. According to market research from IBHS, over 14,000 homeowners and property managers discover water damage in their residential and commercial properties daily. More than 98% of basements will eventually sustain water damage from various sources.

In this case study, we'll discuss one of the most peculiar problems our technicians have had to solve: repairing a busted pipe above a residential kitchen, which flooded the first floor and destroyed ceiling sections and cabinetry.

What began as a small leak from a seemingly trivial plumbing fixture quickly evolved into a mid-range restoration and cleanup operation that required truck-loaded equipment and the skills of experienced project planners and plumbers.

Project Description

An  Ogden homeowner had a pipe burst inside their kitchen roof, causing water to leak inside the paintwork and insulation material. Most kitchen appliances and furniture at the job site escaped water damage, but their wall-mounted cabinetry had visible lumps caused by moisture saturating the wood. The client shut off their water supply and called our customer service hotline for an inspection.

When our technician arrived at their residence, we saw the kitchen paint sagging from water penetration and about five square feet of ceiling drooping from the weight of the moisture above. We knew we had a mid-range restoration job on our hands, so we quoted our client a cost-efficient rate for labor and replacement materials and got to work once we had the green light.

Project Solution

Our local water damage restoration technicians removed the wall-mounted cabinets to expose their moisture-damaged back panels and the sagging paintwork to sunlight and ventilation. They ripped two holes in the ceiling to allow the house frame, which was also wet from the water leak, to dry. While they waited for that, they got to work replacing the plumbing that had broken to eliminate the water source.

After replacing the damaged pipe with a more reliable alloy fitting, they began to break down the ceiling sections that were too damaged to restore. They also stripped the damaged paintwork, baseboards, and a few floorboards with a bacterium trail or moisture barrier.

Our technicians repainted the affected areas and installed new floorboards, baseboards, and ceiling composites. We also salvaged the cabinetry by drying and treating them with an antimicrobial solution.

We began our standard drying process by opening the windows, breaking out the industrial fans, and turning on the air purifiers and dehumidifiers. The kitchen required a few hours to dry completely, but we finished the entire job in one day.

Project Results

Our client was ecstatic that they could use their kitchen without fearing mold colonies growing behind their cabinets and ceiling tiles. We restored their home and even improved upon some older features that had needed repair prior to the damage. They loved our work process, professionalism, and courteousness, opting to pay us on the same day while leaving us a stellar rating.
