Water Damage Restoration Project in Ogden, UT

Dionel G. • Aug 22, 2022

Most people know that water damage can stain and weaken their home’s building materials, but it comes with various other issues you cannot ignore. For example, flood water frequently leads to mold growth, pest infestation, and ceiling collapses, making your home uncomfortable or even unlivable.

With those risks, it's crucial to have an on-call water damage restoration team in Utah that will help you through your floods whenever they strike, and Swift Restoration and Remodeling can be that team for you.

This post will look at how we recently helped an Ogden homeowner navigate their severe flooding issues quickly and at a low rate.

Project Description

In July 2022, our team worked on a water damage restoration project for a home in Ogden, Utah. The water damage began above-head and weakened the ceiling, tearing it apart and leaking through to the flooring and walls of the home’s kitchen and living space.

The ceiling suffered the most structural damage, but the flood also damaged some flooring and walls, necessitating repairs and replacement in all affected areas. The water damage also impacted the space’s lighting fixtures.

Project Solution

Our water extraction work for this Ogden home started with a thorough safety inspection. Since the flood affected the ceiling, we knew it impacted the above-head lighting and some ground-floor electronics when it seeped through. Therefore, we ensured that the building’s power was off and disconnected the electric equipment before progressing.

We also identified the most affected building materials and strengthened the salvageable ones so the home wouldn’t collapse during our restoration work. Then, with the house safe, we quickly drained the standing water so it wouldn’t progress through the building and create more structural damage.

Once we eliminated the standing water, we extracted the flood water from the soaked building materials. Since the flood affected an entire room and the ceiling above, this was one of the longest steps, but we managed to thoroughly dry the whole affected space. Water allowed to permeate inside building materials can lead to mold growth and attract pests along with a slowly weakening the structure, so this was an essential step.

After removing the standing and embedded water, we finalized the process by repairing the worn-down materials and replacing those severely damaged by the flood. Though the ceiling and a portion of the floor needed extensive replacement, we managed to salvage many of the original materials with repainting and extensive repairs.

Project Results

Thanks to our advanced water extraction tools, meticulous attention to detail, and fast action, we drained every drop of flood water out of the building and fully restored and repaired the building materials. After we finished our water damage restoration services, the home looked as good as it did before the flood.

Fully replacing the damaged materials with new ones likely would have taken months and cost tens of thousands of dollars with the damage the house sustained. That monetary estimate also doesn’t include the medical expenses exposure to mold and collapsing building materials might have caused. However, our water damage restoration team completed the job for a fraction of the cost while delivering the same quality final results.
