Kitchen Design Trends From a Renovation Contractor
February 22, 2022

According to design experts, kitchen renovations are shifting this year to fit the needs of homeowners who are spending more time working and cooking from home. Personalization and modernization are the driving influences behind kitchen renovation projects right now, and here are just some of the design trends that are expected to take over kitchens across the country this year.

Kitchen Renovation Contractor in Utah

1. Colorful Cabinets

For the past couple of years, we have seen kitchen design shift from the clean look of white cabinets to pops of color through cabinetry. People are wanting their kitchens to feel more personal, and one of the best ways to get that ‘custom’ look is to add colored cabinets. The associate manager of color marketing and development for Benjamin Moore Paint stated that consumers are getting more adventurous and bold with kitchen cabinet colors, and they have seen an increase in the use of emerald greens, soft blues, deep navy blues, smokey charcoals, and bold black.

2. Statement Range Hoods

Range hoods are no longer seen as just a convenient location for a microwave as the trend sweeping through kitchen renovations is to make range hoods a statement and center piece of the kitchen. From custom wood pieces, to copper-wrapped hoods, and even ones that blend in with the cabinets, the options and possibilities for adding that ‘wow factor’ with your range hood are endless. If you are looking to make your kitchen pop, consider relocating your microwave and adding a custom range hood above your stove.

3. Removing Upper Cabinets Completely or Replacing them with Open Shelving

With the minimalist mentality and the desire to have less clutter around the home, mixed with the popular design choice lately of more open spaces and living, we are seeing a growing movement of getting rid of upper cabinetry in the kitchen. This design choice is especially popular in smaller kitchens, as it makes the room look and feel bigger. This also frees up wall space for the popular open shelving that is sweeping the country, and even gallery walls where favorite art pieces or family photos can be displayed. As a result, many newly designed and renovated kitchens in 2022 will showcase mainly lower cabinetry.

4. Hidden Storage

This one is no surprise after the last trend, you are still going to need a place to store food, dishes, and other kitchen tools and appliances with those upper cabinets disappearing. Appliance garages, pantries, and other storage hidden behind closed doors is not only trending this year, but is also a practical way to add storage without changing the aesthetics of the kitchen. This hidden storage helps create a sense of calm, organization, and peace in the kitchen and in the home, while still being functional.

How do you feel about the design trends for 2022? Have you been dreaming of implementing any of them in your kitchen? Or do you have your own plans to make your kitchen the one of your dreams? Regardless of what changes you want or need to make in your kitchen, Swift is the kitchen renovation contractor you can trust to bring your vision to life .
